We booked this place for an overnight stay hoping to experience the grandness at one of this renowned historical place, but only to our disappointment. There was no one at the reception when we reached the hotel. A hotel stuff was too busy talking in phone while we pondered where to park our car and what to do next. When we went in, there was hardly any smile on anyone’s face let alone any welcome drink or appropriate conduct. And that continued for the whole day, not sure if they were too stoned to respond with a hint of smile for once. It did creep us out a little bit to be frank. Anyway, coming to the property. Horrible in terms of maintenance. The whole room smelled like a hospital quarter. There were small insects on the bed. The fan made a “grand” whirring noise. The bathroom was smaller than that of a proper 2 star hotel. Toiletries were minimal, towels were worn out. And the list goes on. Anyway, you can visit this place for experience in the morning or afternoon, but DO NOT book a stay. Prefer an Oyo for better cleanliness and hygiene, no I mean it! Such a waste of our money.

Cleanliness of the room

Ambience, Breakfast, Staff, front office was excellent. But there were lots of small cockroaches in the toilet. The staff however were cooperative and they did spray some medicines, but it was not of much use. May be a professional pest control to be employed.

This was a terrible experience. Apathy of the staff, no maintenance of the place, dirty bathrooms. Carpets covered in stains and really dirty parts covered by mats.,Regular cleaning doesn’t seem to part of the routine. This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel but Ive been to two star places which were spotlessly clean compared to this. We booked this thinking that some experience of the heritage and grandeur of its palace days may be there but were shocked at how JLR have maintained this. Certainly their standards have lowered. I noticed some reviews where people have been happy and wonder does it depend on which wing/ room you get. Whatever it is a hotel is supposed to have the same standards across. Certainly won’t be visiting or recommending this to anyone. I am from Karnataka and am ashamed that this palace has been managed like this.

Entry charges - to a hotel?

We stayed here 12 years ago and decided to go back, perhaps for tea. We were met at the gate by two government employees who wanted to charge us entry. It is a hotel, there is no charge. We didn’t pay and didn’t visit. This sort of thing does not do a truly beautiful building justice.

The only Palace hotel in the south India. At present it's maintained by JLR. But the standard is not JLR standard. We stayed for one night in the Deluxe room. Rooms are looking old and need renovation. Breakfast is reasonable spread and delicious. You can stay for one night and enjoy the palace hotel experience.
